Before and Afters - 10-03-2010

Finally I know... I have been puttering for the past couple of days trying to get some things cleared off my workbench.  Things kind of went on hold since Mya came into this world.  It was a cold rainy weekend, perfect weather for hiding in the basement and getting some stuff done...

I found this sweet handmade lamp at the Salvation Army last week for $3.99,
it was just the piece to get me motivated again...

the after...
I replaced the wooden knobs with porcelain knobs and gave it the ole prim treatment...
added a thrifted burlap shade...

now it has found a new home in my living room.

this piece was from awhile ago...
I loved the shape and size of it but I just could not figure out what to put in it...
I finally had a lightbulb moment this morning... remember the other half of the wooden bowl...

I painted it mustard... sanded it...
rubbed it with walnut Briwax to give it the perfect dirty prim look...
drilled some holes, added pegs and a little glue...

 another perfect prim soap keep...

but this one is even better... it holds the towel too...

added some burlap flowers and berries...

I had been looking for the perfect piece to fill that spot...

a couple of 99 cent pieces from the same store...
these are 29" tall...

 primmed up...
these are going in my bedroom as soon as I can find the right candles for them...

I have a phone in my bathroom that sits on the counter, I don't know about you but it makes me a little nervous to have anything electrical so close to water...

I cut the end off with the "OB" and turned it upside down...

screwed it to the corner...
a shelf to keep my countertop free
and the phone has a perfect spot, up and away from water

Now for you Mya fans out there... I got to hold her again for over an hour on Friday... she is up to 4.12 now, notice no more feeding tube... she is taking all her feeds from the bottle, still with Mommy's milk... Doctor is so pleased with her progress that he thinks she may be able to go home in a week or so... oh I can't wait.

So there you have it folks... my weekend in a nutshell.

I hope everyone has had a good one and the sun is shining somewhere out there...

Have a great day...

and Mya... what can I say? She's cuter every day! (if that's possible)
I hope you have a great week!

Love this soap holder even more than the other one. And that is my favorite color these days!
Mya is a doll. I know you will all be so relieved when she comes home!

I can't decide which of your makeovers is my favorite. I think it's the soap holder, no it's the lamp. It's a good thing you got some work done this weekend because once Mya comes home that will all be over. :) Love the way she poses and glad to see her all bundled in pink. :)
