Memory Hunting - 01-08-2011

It has been awhile since I have gone on a real "Memory Hunt"... I was having major withdrawal, we headed out in a snowstorm yesterday to my favourite haunt... I just felt them calling my name... I knew there was something just sitting there waiting for me to rescue it... grab your coffee and let's get this show on the road...
wooden butter churn... $1.50

fooled you... it is a minature size

on the right, a small hand turned wooden top... $5.00
I am such a sucker for anything that is handmade wood... perfect little piece for decorating shelves

cute sign... $5.00

this was a steal at $15.00... no cracks or chips... original lid

and it is authentic Ironstone... this has been on my want list for so long... I was always too cheap to pay the prices they normally ask for these

another old spool... $4.50

ewwhhh can you imagine having your hair cut with one of these beasts... $1.00

now you know I wasn't passing this up... cast iron and a bank... $6.50

I wasn't in the door 30 seconds when I spotted this... $39.95 SOLD... handmade and wood... there I go again... I really want to paint this but I am getting some resistance... what do you think? I was thinking distressed black... The shopowner and Mr. D. think I should leave it... I hate orange shellac

someone went to a lot of trouble to make this... but I can see in my mind's eye what it would look like beat up and distressed... I know it isn't old but I could sure make it look like it is... hmmmm... I am also thinking about just sanding and trying the dark walnut bri-wax to tone down the orange

side view... I will have to sand it all first... yuck...

remember this piece... the same orange shellac

after I painted it black and distressed... this is what I am thinking for the dough box...
any suggestions would be appreciated

I absolutely love old office pieces... this is an all metal single hole punch... I just had to have this... $3.00

and a small pair of handknit socks for our sweet little Mya... I am hoping these fit her better than those mittens... something tells me they may be end up leg warmers instead of socks... $1.50

I found this before Christmas at another one of my thrift stores... I won it at a silent auction for $35.00... Mya christened it on Christmas Eve...

like brand new... mattress was also included
Well that's it folks...

Hope you are all having a great weekend and someone has warmer weather than us...
brrrr it is a balmy 19 degrees here today, but we have sunshine.

Have a great day and thanks so much for stopping by...
Hugs, Deb

Love the dough box, I think I agree with you......black distressed look like the cabinet you showed. We are having cold temps today, but yippie the sun is out and I have all that wonderful wood I brought in to add to the fire!

You got some great stuff Deb! In my opinion I think you should paint the dough box like the cabinet.

Love all your finds girl!! Yes, I agree that the dough box would look much better painted and distressed. If anyone can make it look old, you can :)

One day when I get to your area, we are going on a haunt to your fav place :)

I'd paint it too! What is it about that old shellac that makes it so orange-age? Yuck! Great finds-thank you for taking us along!

I think you should paint the dough box black. It would look great distressed.

I'm loving the little socks for Mya. Wish I knew how to knit, I'd make her several pairs.

My goodness it WAS a good day for you! As for that orange schellac... all of the woodwork in my house was coated in that. I am slowing removing it.... with ammonia water. Works like a charm.

Hi Deb,
Thanks for leaving such nice and helpful comments all the time. I love all your finds, what exactly is the wooden thing? Dry goods mixer? Anyway it was a great price. And little Mya's craddle, well its adorable just like her.
