Before and After - 01-09-2011 - Dough Box

Okay girls, I heard you loud and clear... I don't know why I listen to Mr. D., although he has great taste... hey he picked me, didn't he?...lol... he hates to see me paint wood... what is it about men and painting wood???... after Denise and Brenda's comment I was downstairs giving it a face lift... Mr. D. came down and the first words he uttered was "oh that looks much better"... go figure.

Okay here you go ladies...

first let's have another look at the before...

the wonderful 70's shade of orange

now bring in the big guns... Briwax - dark walnut...
if you like to dirty or age pieces this is a must... it is the nicest wax to work with...

I sanded a bit to rough it up... I then applied the Briwax with a brush... meet my new buffer...lol... those miracle cloths are great for buffing ... I stuck it to my sander and let it do all the hard work...

 I am loving it...

it is actually a little darker than it is showing...

all dressed up...
I passed up an ironstone pitcher, now I will have to go back and get it... shhh

the reason it is in my washroom is because I have absolutely no room left in my house... the first question I always get from Mr. D. is where are you going to put that... I had to think of an answer quickly, so here it is and I love it... plus it gives me storage to hide all my extra dough...hahaha... don't waste your time looking... unless you are needing a roll of white stuff.

So what do you think... still think I should have painted?

and last but not least... our sweet little Mya... snuggling with Mommy.

Hope your day has been a good one...

Hugs, Deb

Oh yes! That is beautiful! I love the look of dark wood and am glad you didn't paint it - it's just gorgeous. Well, almost as beautiful as Mya : ) Thanks for the fix!

I love the dark finish, it looks so much better. I always think Paint, but what a great idea to stain darker.

Hey girl,
Thanks for stopping by my site AND YES the clocks from England are for sale. I am not sure about shipping something that big...it would depend on if I can find a box big enough and if you are willing to pay for shipping.

But thanks for the kind words,
Lori

I remember reading this, but I guess I didn't get around to commenting. I've been a bad blog friend and am spending my day just catching up with all my buds and visiting.
This makeover looks great, I need to get me some of that briwax stuff. I'm kicking myself for not buying it that day we were shopping together.

I just found your blog and am loving looking at your pictures. I do think you made a good choice going with the darker stain. I wonder if that would work on my kitchen cabinets that are way too yellow for my taste (gotta love the 80s!).
