Work a little ~ Play a little...

well I am... I don't make resolutions, I make excuses.

THE WORK PHASE....

I have procrastinated six L O N G years to get to this project.  I don't know what took me so long to go in there and tackle this ghastly deed.  Aside from the fact the room was utterly depressing and downright U G L Y.   I hated to even walk in there... other than to grab a pair of socks out of the dresser and run like hell to get out before the boogey man nabbed me.   My daughter wouldn't even open the door... she said the room creeped her out.

Now, let me explain.  I had nothing to do with this room.  It was a bonus when I bought the house.  It is part of the original house before "they" renovated.  Did they fear going in this room too???

Okay it's coming... this is a warning to you.  If you want to run for cover, do it now.  Grab your drink it's a long one.

Remember this is just Phase One... It is far from completed but a girl can tease a little along the way.  At least I am pre warning you this time.

even the vanity and dresser are huddled together in fear of being alone in there...
I have big plans for that vanity, but that won't be until Phase 11... just saying.

check out the beautiful carpeting and lovely panel board...
NOT...
let's not forget that hideous stain on the cheap window trim either...

it took hours, just to fill holes and they weren't even mine.
Check out that graining in the board... deep groovey graining, people.
Do you know how hard it is to paint that crap???... with a brush no less...
yeap, just me and my Purty.

Santa did bring me a Command Max paint sprayer and I did two coats of primer with it...
no matter what I did, I couldn't get a nice even finish... it just wasn't built for a job like this.

wow, what a difference a few paint strokes make.

don't be asking about the colour either... I was determined to use up what I had in the house.
I mixed and mixed until it didn't look like a dog's breakfast and then slapped it on the wall.  My best guess is, it is a true Khaki colour... it is slowly growing on me.

this weekend, I finally ripped out that lovely carpet with full intentions of laying new floor tile.
But as I said this is part of the original house... I don't think they owned a level or even understood what the word square meant.  Tile with lines...  not this girl.  Did I mention how anal I am... about straight lines.  I did the next best thing and called a carpet place and they are coming next week to re-carpet... with no lines.

NOW ONTO THE FUN PLAYING PART...

After painting all the trim white and waiting for it to dry, I decided to go treasure hunting in my room downstairs..

This was hiding behind the door in the ugly room... it was an old CD tower I had bought many moons ago when CD's were in fashion.  Now I download right to my IPOD, so no more CD's to store.
What the heck was I going to do with it now?

I took it apart and cut the top and bottom flush with the last shelves... then re-assembled...

and used the top side pieces to make inside shelves as shown above ~
glued scrapbook paper to the back, then painted it white...

turned it sideways, hung it, then went shopping in the house...

let's steal a little bit from here, a little bit from there...

and before you knew it... it was full...

with my collection of ink wells, caligraphy pens and other treasures.

I then dug this little beauty out of the closet and hung her up...
look how lovely that frame looks against the paint.

then I pulled this $5.00 garage sale find out of the linen closet...
That has been hiding in there for the past 3 years...

used the Cricut and etching vinyl and added the saying...
"Moments Make Memories"
installed the chain,
then hung it in the freshly painted window.
This will be much nicer when I get the curtains up...

and last but not least...

a Mya fix...
sorry bad pic but too precious not to show...

can you tell what her newest expression is?... lol

finally a pic with her pearly whites...

and those blue eyes,
just melt me...

Tuesday, she finally decided to ditch her ride and started walking...
she was hell on wheels with this puppy.

Well off to relax a bit... back to work for a rest tomorrow.

So what ya been working on?...

Stay tuned... Phase 11 will begin next week...

Thanks for popping in...
Hugs,

Great post deb, had me chuckling all the way! Your new room is going to be fabulous! What took you SO long?
Can't wait to see what you have in store for the vanity. :)
That redo of your tall shelf into a horizontal one is a great re-make! woohoo!
so sorry to hear the commandMax didn't work for you. As I was reading, I was wondering why didn't she whip out that sprayer. I suppose it was too fine a finish ?? (spray?)
It's never let me down. Some paint definitely works better in it than others. I'm hoping that is what it was.
Look forward to seeing the next phase!

Wow Deb, I'm really tired after doing all that....ha!! That room is gonna look fabulous and it will probably be the one room in the house that you will be in the most instead of the least....ha!! Wonderful idea on that CD cabinet, looks wonderful with all your ink holders. I can never find any of those around here. Can't wait to see Phase 11!! Get some rest, or I will....lol!

Look at you go! It's going to turn out great. I wish I could convince my parents to let me paint the paneling in their basement bedroom!

I know you've been dreading hitting that room but girl you hit it out of the ballpark so far!! Score..... Deb 1, Old Room 0!!

Love what you did with the old CD holder. You amaze me with your visions you have in your head of how you want everything to look before you do it. Can't wait till Phase II :)

As for Mya....she gets cuter by the day if that is even possible :)

love the way you can put seemingly random stuff together to make such a cool display. You have a real talent for that!
nice paint job on that room.

It is hard to get an even coat with the command max on large areas like that. I had really good results with my beadboard panelling though, it covered the red in just 2 coats. I was using a semi gloss paint. It worked great!
I did try it on the laundry room project with primer in it. I couldn't even tell if it was working because I used white primer on white walls. finally gave up and went to a roller.

Oops, all that and I didn't even mention how adorable Mya's new "face" is. How exciting that she's walking now too. I love that you give us a Mya fix whenever you post! :) I'm feeling like a surrogate gramma!

Great job! I need to get busy on my procrastination list as well... it's just easier looking at everyone else's finished projects - lol. Love the Mya pics - too cute!
